Maldivian begins new route from Gan Island to Colombo

Maldivian, the National Carrier of the republic of Maldives, owned and operated by Island Aviation Services Limited (IAS) is commencing new routes with direct flight to Colombo, Sri Lanka from Male’ and Gan Island effective August 07. The new routes from Gan Island and Male’ to Colombo are mainly to target the medical tourism, business segment and the leisure market. With direct flights, the airline is expecting an increase in the number of tourist arrivals to Colombo as well as to the Maldives. The twice weekly frequency would operate from Colombo to Gan on Mondays and to Male’ on Fridays. The flights to Colombo will be operated using an airbus A320 aircraft with a capacity of 14 business class and 138 economy class seats. Maldivian has been providing air transportation between Male international airport in the Maldives and the domestic airports in the country increasing frequencies to cater fir the domestic demand every year and in turn increasing its fleet. In 2008, Maldivian expanded its operations beyond Maldives to Trivandrum, India and since the addition of its A320 into its fleet; Maldivian has added Chennai, India, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Chongqing China to its network.
