According to the Hindu legend Ramayana, Ravana, the adventurous and powerful king of Sri Lanka is reported to have been responsible for the seven hot wells of varying temperatures which is commonly referred to as 'The Seven Wonders of Sri Lanka'. Some believe that these natural hot water springs hold therapeutic healing powers for ailments such as arthritis and rheumatism, thus it is a common sight to see people clamoring to have a soothing warm water well bath here. A high wall assembles all the seven springs in a rectangular enclosure. Each is enclosed in a dwarf wall and forms a well of its own. The Hot Springs of Kinniya is situated one kilometer from the main Trincomalee road on the outskirts of the town and is well worth the visit.
